With the virtual world now practically at our fingertips, we have never felt closer to our loved ones. But having said that, being in a long-distance relationship is still no easy feat, especially so when it’s pandemic-enforced! Having someone you love and care about living far away from you comes with its challenges.

We have put together a list of pretty darn cool ways to rekindle the spirit of your long-distance relationship when it may seem slightly overwhelming. Read on to see which one could fit right in your schedule.

1. Play the coolest online games – Team up together and slay all the way!

Get your gaming goggles on and team up for some uber-cool games online. Pick your favorite genre(s) and start playing to hit the snooze button on the routine-induced boredom. You could learn quite a lot about each other and have fun while playing the game and discussing it after. Date night = game night!

So, are you game?

2. Netflix partaay! – Snuggle up to some memorable movie nights

Movie nights just got cozier with Netflix parties in the offing: coffee, popcorn, a soothing movie, and your loved one. Everything sorted.

Watch your favorite movies with your significant other virtually and have a blast talking about the plot, the characters, and the thrill of watching it together, even when physically apart.

3. Zoom date nights! – Together through it all

Dress up for some quality screen time on Zoom while adding a fun twist to your date nights. You could have a virtual cook-off, read quotes from your favorite books, paint something cute, dance to some peppy tunes or do pretty much anything interesting together to bring out the chirpy side in each other.

4. Send across gifts – Little things that go a long way

What better way to celebrate love than to gift? Surprise your loved ones by sending them little gifts. You could send something that reminds you of their little quirks, something personalized or handmade. Even if you cannot be physically present in each other’s lives all the time, these gifts will remind you of the warmth and comfort.

5. Work out together – Fitter and stronger, together

Virtual workouts are a great way to bond. Help each other smash your fitness goals and be the motivation when the reps get harder to perform. Get your dose of endorphins together.

Move, sweat, and crunch to glory!

6. Celebrate little victories and special occasions often – Talk till you drop!

Did you get a brand new hairdo? Did your puppy “awoo” for the first time? Did your baking experiment turn out great? Dial up your significant other and tell them. Celebrate small victories and occasions together, often. They make for great conversations.

7. Drop a surprise text – Let them know they’re on your mind

Planned dates are great, but how about a surprise text or call just to let them know you’re thinking about them? Stop your long-distance partner on their tracks and bring a smile on their face with your message when they least expect it.

We hope you enjoyed reading this list as much as we did making it! If you have any ideas of your own, let us know in the comments below.

“Dot, dot, line, line, spiders crawling up your spine…” Do you remember this game? Now, do you remember feeling the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? This is what people call ASMR. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, in layman’s terms, is the tingly feeling you get when presented with a stimulus.

You know how, in some novels, the author describes someone whispering as sending chills up the spine? That’s ASMR, and the earliest record of such an event is found in Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs. Dalloway.” YouTuber Safiya Nygaard also does a very good job at tracing its history back to the internet forum “SteadyHealth” in 2009.

The earliest forms of ASMR anyone would’ve felt naturally would be with regular events like brushing your hair, getting a haircut, painting in class, or most commonly — whispering. Bob Ross’s landscapes subconsciously did the job for many who could not put a finger on it. His aesthetically pleasing paintings combined with his baritone voice made him an accidental pioneer of ASMR.

So, if ASMR has been around for a while, why did it just blow up recently?

The idea of someone whispering into your ears through a screen initially didn’t sit well with a lot of people. Some even considered it to be lewd and repulsive. But with a growing number of internet users seeking a quick fix, ASMR grew in popularity. Especially on YouTube, where, when some videos started generating traction, there was an emergence of many ASMRtists who gained millions of subscribers within no time. With the same fame, however, came a lot of drawbacks. YouTube found itself in flux when children started practicing ASMR on the platform, eventually resulting in the demonetization of these fairly innocent, clickbaity videos.

The community has grown by leaps and bounds since then. Celebrities like Cardi B, Eva Longoria, and Gigi Hadid have tried it for a segment on W Magazine’s channel. In 2019, Zoe Kravitz did a segment of ASMR in the mountains for a Super Bowl commercial. So, ASMR is getting big and the only way to go is up. Will ASMR stand the test of fads, or will it, like those tacky life hack videos, fade away into nothingness? Guess, we’ll have to wait, watch and relax.

If you’re one of those who are new to ASMR and are open to exploring the genre then you should watch videos by Gibi, ASMR Darling, WhispersRed, and Gentle Whispering. If those don’t do the trick, how about my personal favorite, the Virtual Barber, which is apparently older than ASMR itself.

Cauliflower has gained popularity as an extremely versatile veggie. This fat-free, low sodium star ingredient boasts a healthy portion of dietary fiber and some much-needed carbohydrate. Its high water content makes it easy to cook with and it’s favored in many diets targeting weight loss. Its versatility also makes it the perfect ingredient for vegan dishes as well, and it can be used in place of cheese to make for some creamy dishes.

Cauliflower florets can hide quite a bit of grime, so it is best to start by soaking it in a bowl of warm water with some salt added to it and rinsing it thoroughly.

Today we’ll take a look at five easy-to-make recipes that feature this amazing faux flower/veggie along with a few other fairly common ingredients:

1. Cauliflower dip

This dip is a healthy, creamy, and absolutely delicious accompaniment for all your chip needs.

– 1 cup cleaned cauliflower florets

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 3 tbsp. olive oil

– 1 tbsp. lemon juice

– Salt to taste

– Pepper to taste

– In a hot skillet, add 2 tbsp. olive oil, add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.

– Add cauliflower florets and roast over medium heat, occasionally tossing, until it softens.

– Take it off the heat and once cooled, transfer to a blender, add ½ tbsp. olive oil, lemon juice, and blitz until smooth

– Add salt and pepper to taste

– Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the smooth mixture and give it a gentle swirl.

2. Crispy cauliflower popcorn

Crunch factor meets spicy edge, this is the perfect snack for those binge-watching sessions!

– 2 cups cleaned and dried cauliflower florets, broken into bite-size bits

– 3 tsp. Cayenne pepper powder

– 2 tsp. Garlic powder

– 2 tsp. Onion powder

– 1 tsp. Red chili flakes

– 1 tbsp. cornflour

– Oil for shallow frying

– Salt to taste

– In a mixing bowl, add 1 tbsp. of water to the cornflour and make a slightly runny slurry.

– Add the spices, except the red chili flakes, and a pinch of salt to this slurry, and make sure to mix well.

– Add the florets to this mixture and make sure each piece is well covered by the slurry mixture.

– In a heavy-bottomed pot or dutch oven, heat the oil to about 365 degrees F.

– Drop the florets in small batches and shallow fry until golden and crispy.

– Transfer to a tray lined with paper napkins and dab away excess oil.

– Sprinkle salt and red chili flakes over the crispy cauliflower popcorn and serve hot with ketchup or dip.

3. Herb cauliflower rice

An extremely adaptable dish that can be enjoyed on its own or replace rice in just about any dish!

– 3 cups cleaned and grated cauliflower florets

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 small shallot, finely chopped

– 1 scallion, finely sliced

– 2 tbsp. softened butter

– 2 tbsp. olive oil

– Fresh or dried herbs of your choice

– 1 tbsp. lemon juice

– Lemon zest

– Salt to taste

– Pepper to taste

– In a pan or wok, heat the butter and 1 tbsp. of olive oil. To this, add shallot and garlic, sauté until translucent.

– Add grated cauliflower and cook over medium heat, occasionally tossing. After 5 mins, cover with a lid and let it cook until it softens.

– Take off the lid after 5 mins, add your selection of herbs and stir over medium heat.

– Turn off the heat, add the lemon zest and juice, making sure to mix them in well.

– Season with salt and pepper to taste.

– Drizzle the remaining olive oil, garnish with scallions and serve hot.

4. Cauliflower steak

Creative, fancy, and yummy, this steak checks all the right boxes and is a perfect dish for the next date night!

– 1 cup cleaned cauliflower, cut into 1’ thick slices

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 3 tbsp. olive oil

– 1 tbsp. butter

– Dried herbs of your choice

– Salt to taste

– Pepper to taste

– In a hot skillet, add the butter, olive oil, dried herbs, minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant. Pour this mixture into a bowl and save for later.

– Turn up the heat, and in the same skillet, sear cauliflower slices for about 3 mins per side or more if you prefer it a bit charred.

– Add a tsp of the mixture prepared earlier and let the cauliflower steaks sizzle.

– Plate it with some roasted veggies and pour the remaining mixture over the cauliflower and veggies. Serve hot.

5. Mashed cauliflower

Gooey deliciousness that’s reminiscent of mashed potatoes without the extra calories or the guilt!

– 2 cups cleaned cauliflower, cut into medium-sized pieces

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tbsp. olive oil

– 3 tbsp. butter

– Finely chopped chives for the garnish

– ¼ cup heavy cream or half-half

– Salt to taste

– Pepper to taste

– Steam the cauliflower for about 20 mins, drain and blend to preferred consistency.

– While the cauliflower is still hot, add the butter, olive oil, heavy cream, or half-half, and mix well.

– Season with salt and pepper, and garnish with chopped chives. Serve hot.

We hope you enjoyed these simple recipes featuring this superstar veggie. It’s all about eating healthy and getting creative about it!

Finally, we have come to the end of a year that has lasted several years (decades?). And while nothing has been usual or normal about this year, the age-old tradition of setting lofty goals and mighty aims for the new year looms over us. Yes, we’re talking about – cue the drumroll – New Year Resolutions!

Now in the past, we’ve all been guilty of setting the bar way too high with resolutions by trying to turn a 180 on every aspect of our lives. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing to aim for, it ends being a very steep mountain to scale; and an easier one to slip off than climb. And everyone everywhere seems to end up with the same set of boring resolutions, turning this already difficult list of tasks into a project of Herculean measures.

If you have nodded along to everything you just read, but still kinda want to ring in the new year with something to look forward to, allow us to suggest some fun, quirky and unconventional twists to the regular resolutions that will let you start and go through the coming year on a great note!

Without any further hubbub, and in no particular order, here goes:

1. Hobby circle

Everyone plans to take up a new hobby and most never end up following through. Here’s where the Buddy System comes to the rescue! All you need is a small circle of friends, family, coworkers, or even acquaintances who either share the same interest as you or would like to pick it up as a new hobby. 3-5 people are more than enough. Schedule regular intervals to exchange books, playlists, or watchlists, and find yourself on a journey that has you not only successfully engaging in a hobby, but also finding kinship in sharing it.

2. An exercise in creativity

Planning to add more exercise to your routine is one of the most common resolutions, but eventually, laziness and/or lack of time and dedication leads to this one being an epic fail. But with a little creativity, you can trick yourself into slipping exercise into your everyday life. Whether it’s taking the stairs, stretches in between while you WFH, or getting creative with “weights” that you can lift, let your imagination guide you to a healthier life. And for those who need that extra push, make it into a challenge that you could even share on your social media profiles.

3. Clean but happy eating

It’s all well and good when you plan on adding greens to your diet, but the ground reality is that you find yourself fantasizing about pizza while playing with that healthy salad. Again, you can make the best use of creativity into eating healthier, gradually by reducing your salt and sugar intake, adding pizzaz (no, not pizzas) to your salads by making your own delicious drizzles and vinaigrettes, reducing takeout or ordering from outside, and even challenging yourself to a new diet.

4. Go green!

While it seems like a daunting task to try and fix the environment, you can always start with yourself and your home. Making tiny changes to your lifestyle can have an immensely positive impact in the long term. Moreover, you will lead by example in your community, creating a ripple effect of real change. Try to avoid single-use plastics as much as possible, switch out to a metal straw, start composting, and switch to natural products that are made by processes that don’t leach chemicals into the planet. Whatever you pick, you can start small and work your way up. The best part is picking up any one of these would make an excellent contribution towards healing nature.

5. Drop the bad, pick up the good!

Habits. They make up so much of our daily actions and are notoriously hard to break. Well, like everything else on this list, start small. Every week, drop one not-so-great habit and pick up one pretty great habit. This will give you a week to work out the kinks, and you’ll find yourself on the path to being better, for real. And hopefully, by the end of the year, you will have 52 good habits that replace 52 bad ones. Talk about balance!

While these are some of the major resolutions you can add to your list for the new year, remember to take care of yourself. Fit in those pampering sessions, stay hydrated, stay healthy, and stay happy!

We hope you liked our suggestions, be sure to let us know your quirky new year’s resolutions in the comments below. Cheers to the new decade of opportunity and a happy new year!

Winter is here! ‘Tis the season of steaming mugs of hot cocoa and warm, fuzzy blankets. As the trees lose their foliage, the air turns crisp, and the flakes of snow start to cover the frozen ground, it’s time for you to gear up for the cold months ahead.

Don’t worry though, because we’ve got you covered on that front. Here are some ways you can make the most of winter:

Winter décor

Having warm rugs and woolen throws around the house will not only pep up the indoors but also ensure you stay cozy and warm throughout winter. You can get really creative with the colors and add a personal touch with some holiday-themed decorations. Twinkly fairy lights in warm tones will add brightness to your space. And don’t forget to make a comfy corner with lots of cushions and a blanket to catch up on your winter reading.

Winter fashion

It’s that time of the year when you break out your collection of winter wear. Keeping warm doesn’t have to come at the cost of being fashionable, however. Use your creativity to fashion the contents of your closets into trendy outfits. Layers are your best friends in this cold weather, so layer wisely. Add a pop of color with every outfit to beat those winter blues. Bring the fashionista flair with pretty scarves styled in different ways.

Winter recipes

Awaken your inner chef and embark on a gastronomical journey this winter. From hearty soups and stews to hot pies and casseroles, let your tastebuds lead you to the creation of mouthwatering dishes in this season.

Here’s a simple soup recipe to get you started:

– 1 small onion (or 2 shallots), finely chopped

– 2-3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped

– 1 tbsp. unsalted butter

– ⅓ cup French beans, finely sliced

– ⅓ cup baby carrots, finely chopped

– ⅓ cup cabbage, finely sliced

– 1 cup shredded chicken or button mushrooms, roughly diced

– ½ cup sweet corn

– 2 tbsp. quick oats, powdered

– 6 cups of water

– Salt (to taste)Pepper (to taste)

– Heat up the butter in a heavy-bottomed pot, add the onion and garlic and sauté until translucent.

– Add French beans and chicken or mushroom and sauté until cooked through.

– Add carrots and cabbage, and sauté until soft.

– Add 6 cups of water and bring up to a boil, stirring occasionally.

– Mix the powdered oats with a little water to make a paste. Add this paste to the boiling water while stirring.

– Add sweet corn, cover with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes.

– Season with salt and pepper as per taste and serve hot.

These were a few ways to pep up your winter. Do write to us in the comments below and share your winter prep with us. Stay warm and cozy!

2020 has been a whirlwind of a year, with bad news seemingly around every corner. We’ve had to completely rethink the way we live our lives. From working remotely to being socially isolated from being stuck indoors to canceled travel plans, we’ve all faced the brunt of the global pandemic in many different ways. But has it really been all that bad?

While this year may have let us down in so many ways, let’s take a walk down memory lane and take a look at the best of 2020.

Socially distant, but closer than ever

Video calls and phone calls became more frequent and lengthier. Suddenly, it didn’t matter if a friend or family member lived down the street, in a different city, or even on another continent. Emerging from the absence of the day-to-day hustle and bustle, we found ourselves with more time to reach out and interact with long-lost friends and family. Technology helped knit together scattered friendships, relationships, and even build new ones!

Creative sparks everywhere

It’s almost as if we let the daily humdrum of routine capture us all these years, and forgot how each of us has a budding artist, musician, or singer within. Being indoors, with so much more time on hand, 2020 saw people explore and push their creative boundaries, making art that delighted not just the self but gave hope and brought joy to others as well. Empty canvases were dusted off, and bold strokes of paint gave them new life. Untouched musical instruments were tuned to bring out new melodies. Creativity got a new lease on life!

Social media, the new hangout spot

Social media really came into its own this year, with countless #challenges that engaged and enthralled us, and provided us with much-needed fun and laughs. Social media creators upped their game, creating an endless supply of content that kept us entertained. A sense of togetherness was bred through shared interests and passionate discussions on online forums. Important social movements were accelerated in the right direction, and social media was at the heart of real change.

Collective “me-time” and binge-watching sessions

Having more time led to us spending some much-needed quality time in solitude, discovering more about ourselves in this one year than we had ever before. We grew from being lonely to being alone, and the journey involved a whole lot of feel-good, self-pampering sessions. We also finally found time to catch up on all the shows and movies we missed out on earlier while balancing careers and social lives. 2020 saw some epic binge sessions of both, old favorites and new discoveries, powered by various streaming apps that helped us be the couch-potato-cum-heroes we needed to be this year.

Here’s to the ups in a year of erratic ups and downs. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20.

We hope looking back puts a smile on your face. Do comment and tell us about the best of your year. Stay safe!
