13 Movies to Watch During Halloween Season

Are you in quarantine feeling nostalgic for last year’s Halloween bash? Are you also bummed out about not being able to go out trick o’ treating this year? Well, worry no more. We have the next best thing to do: Binge on some classic movies to lift your spirits.

Grab those costumes from pre-Covid years and let the marathon begin!

1. Hocus Pocus

Nothing like some badass witches to set the tone right. And how good did Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Middler look as witches?!

2. Halloweentown

A classic Disney Halloween movie complete with witches, goblin, vampire, and much more.. Halloweentown had inclusivity and acceptance of every creature so we stan!

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington and Sandy Claws are two puns that still have me in stitches. The two biggest holidays of the year in one movie, I mean that’s a recipe for success.

4. Twitches

Before Tia and Tamera Mowry got their own reality TV series, they starred in a movie about twin sisters separated at birth who were royal witches. It was a Disney Original so needless to say, there were tears, love and laughter. That moon necklace was a dream.

5. The Craft

The age-old tale of outcasts forming a clique which turns out to be cooler than the rest of the school. Sign me up because changing hair colors and levitating sounds rad.

6. Ghostbusters (1984)

“If there’s something strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!!” If you did not sing this line, you have to watch this absolute cult classic and that song will be stuck like gum in your head.

7. Coraline

Well, I’m not kidding when I say this movie gave me the heebie-jeebies. Something doesn’t sit right when you picture buttons instead of eyes. The movie is just amazing and Miss Coraline’s name is so wonderful, very goth.

8. Casper

The momentary happiness all the kids got when Casper was turned into a human is hands down the most bittersweet experience. That rollercoaster to the basement was pretty fun. Can we get it to Disneyland ASAP?

9. The Addams Family

Cult classic series to binge on Halloween. The 1991 movie was especially perfect because of Christina Ricci’s stellar performance as a dead-on-the-inside, Wednesday Addams.

10.  Beetlejuice

Living in your own country home rent-free and out of radar sounds like a great life. Befriending a goth teen who is the only form of human contact is the cherry on top.

11.  Carrie (1976)

Want something more spine-chilling? Your search ends here.

12.  Child’s Play

Despite having comedy bits within the franchise, Chucky still gave everyone sleepless nights. The fear of dolls that was instilled in many kids, started from this very movie. I’m just going ahead and saying that Chucky walked so that Annabelle could run.

13.  Friday the 13th

Man, this Jason guy didn’t die for 12 movies. This slasher horror franchise is more sci-fi than the “Hollow Man” franchise. Jason, honey, please consider changing your career.

Well, those are 13 among the many many movies you can watch during Halloween. We hope that these movies help kill your boredom while quarantining. Happy Halloween!

If you’re an Instagrammer and are looking to level up your IG aesthetics without breaking the bank on an influencer-approved camera, read on. In this lazy-grammer’s hack to the perfect Insta account, we tell you how easy and fun it can be to develop your own personal style on the gram.

Disclaimer – No influencer has contributed to the article but we bet they’d approve too!

1.  Underlays always slay!

White is in, especially with the comeback of the polaroid camera. That vintage look is actually a lot easier to get if you can get hold of some classic polaroid templates. Cue, the photo editing app Canva  where you can find hundreds of cool templates and features that you can mix and match!

2. Three’s not a crowd

When we talk about layouts, the 3-pictures formula is the way to go! The easiest possible way to get that uniform artsy vibe is to take three pictures in the same outfit, same location but different poses (if you’re up for it). If not, just change the second pic and repeat the first and third one and voila your page will look Art Director-approved! Remember, you don’t have to feature in these pics, if you have a small business and want to do something fun for your Instagram community, apply the 3-pic rule to your flat lays.

3.  Pastels are unparalleled

Love a pop of color but don’t want it to look like a unicorn threw up on your page? Trust pastels to do the trick. These soft, muted tones achieve that fun and eye-appealing look.

4.  Earth it, worth it

Think mossy greens and rustic reds, colors that immediately remind you of wet earth and rainy days. Sounds like a palette that screams you? The vignette option on the edit tool on Instagram is where you can play with these tones/highlights and create a page that truly represents you.

5.  VSCO girl takeover

VSCO has been around for a while and so has editing photos to bring out that oomph. Photo editing apps are big (not you FaceTune). Some free photo-editing apps you can use for that Insta aesthetic are Snapseed, Lightroom, Prizma and PicsArt.

6.  Monochrome it all

Love the self-assured black and white works of your favorite photographers? Don’t be scared. Monochromes never failed anyone. Whether it’s a black and white portrait or a monochrome outfit, bringing this bold uniformity to your page will in time give your page that professional look we all love scrolling through.

7.   Challenge your style

Instagram is famous for photo challenges. In 2020 alone, we saw the pillow challenge and the Vogue challenge take IG by storm. How do you take up the challenge without breaking the look of your well-curated page? Easy. Do it your way. Add a touch of your style to the challenge and post it with pride!

8.  Be you

While it’s fun to curate your page to perfection, there’s nothing quite like bringing an unfiltered you to Social Media. So, if you’re not in the mood for any of the above, sit back, and share what you want to with the world.  Wear your stretch marks and acne scars like they were a page out of your life and slay it!

If all you’re trying to do is share what you love (self-indulgent selfies included) with the world, then we hope you will enjoy trying these tips to find your own unique style.

Millennial food trends started blowing up ever since Instagram became a thing circa 2014-ish. We saw the unicorn ice cream, the black burger, the charcoal ice cream, and who can forget about the rainbow toast. Well, the hype subsided as we moved towards healthier eating habits.

With the growing awareness of what we consume, there has been a shift in eating habits. From getting take out almost every week to consciously choosing healthier alternatives, millennials have altered diets globally. Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen and Jessica Alba have been vocal about exploring healthier alternatives.

So, let’s see some of the trends that are popular with Millennials and now, the Gen Z’ers.

As soon as people realized that avocados can be used for more than making guac, they went off. Only in 2016 did avocados blow up to become the Beyoncé of the millennial foods. Avocado toast is the recipe you’re looking for. Instead of paying $7 for it, you can just make it at home and feel bougie. Top your toast with some avocado, green onions, tomatoes and you’re good to go. Just add a perfectly poached egg if you’re feeling particularly adventurous that day

If the humble avocado is Beyoncé, then Kale surely has to be Jay-Z. From using it in salads to making smoothies out of it, the trend is going strong. The easiest way you can introduce Kale into your diet is through salads. Slowly start adding kale in the place of lettuce. Top it with a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar which is known to boost metabolism, and voila!

Millennials love their Instagram colors and Matcha gives them that perfect green for the ‘Gram. Remember when Kit Kat introduced a Matcha Green Tea flavor?  There has been no looking back since that entry. Many companies have incorporated the flavor into various things ranging from cakes to cold brews. But, the most famous ones are the rolled ice creams and froyos. You can’t get enough of those, can you?

This one has everyone catching mixed feelings. Jackfruit is used as a supplement to meat specifically pulled pork but recently The Impossible Burger has been making the rounds for all good reasons. This burger claims to use plant-based nutrients to recreate your All-American hamburger.  The burger may have a long battle ahead, but it sure is a moment of resurrection for our little Jackie, thanks to the millennials!

Smoothie Bowls

Ever since fruits have become cool, smoothie bowls have become all the rage. Get some granola, add some frozen fruit, top it with fresh fruits and there you have it. A cute little smoothie bowl. Plus, you always feel like you’ve earned it after a workout.

Please don’t hate on the last one but,

Pineapple (on pizza)

Also known as the Hawaiian pizza which did not even originate in Hawaii (visible confusion). Although the trend came into being back in the ‘60s, millennials brought it back as a debate. Some love it, some hate it. Kinda like romcoms and parodies. Not loved widely but deeply. But, millennials are known for mixing and matching ingredients like many of those mentioned above.

Say what you may but us millennials have definitely started a chain reaction that’s having a ripple effect across the food industry. From vegan restaurants to farm-to-table brunches, these sure may look like trends, but on closer inspection, these are the results of the choices we’ve made collectively and are hopefully here to stay.

Do you want to make an impact around the world? Are you concerned about the plastic waste that is dumped into the oceans and the landfills, year after year? Would you like to do your bit but don’t know how? Turns out, it’s not as hard as we imagine it to be. Small steps add up to big changes, you’ll see how.

Living a sustainable life is the first step towards making this dream come true. For the uninitiated, sustainability is all about adopting earth-friendly practices. In today’s time, it is increasingly important to make sustainable living a priority. However, don’t fret thinking of it as a daunting task! Here are some simple steps to make zero waste living a reality(well, almost!)

  • First things first, here is the golden rule: Remember the five Rs viz. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.

Refuse a product if you don’t really need it. (Say hello to minimalism)

Reduce the amount of waste generated (conscious consumerism, much?)

Reuse whatever you can before you throw it away. (one product, many facets)

Recycle in any way you can (upcycling is the new cool!)

Rot, as in compost as and when you can( Food for thought..err..plants?)

  • Ladies, have you considered switching to natural cosmetics, like shampoo bars and solid deodorants? Trust us, they’re a win-win!
  • CYOB(Carry Your Own Bag): This is the simplest swap there is! Swap takeaways and shopping bags with cloth bags. You can even DIY your own tote and make a fashion statement.
  • Do a waste audit: Know what goes into your waste and take action. Segregate your waste so you know what can be recycled.
  • Make the switch to a bamboo (or anything compostable) toothbrush. Isn’t it a lovely feeling, watching greens grow from your very own compost?
  • Check if you can get your groceries directly from the farm or bulk-buying stores, where you can carry your containers. After all, packaging comes with a lot of plastic.
  • Consider carrying reusable or compostable cutlery. You don’t realize how badly you need a steel or bamboo straw until you have one.
  • You could swap plastic wrappers with organic wax papers for refrigerator storage.
  • Often, we throw out used cooking oil, which could clog the drains. Did you know it could be donated to be recycled into fuel?
  • Adopt “Slow Fashion” which is all about opting for apparel that is sustainably produced.
  • Go eco-friendly when gifting and spread the word.

Lastly, remember, one small step at a time can move the needle.

Tea. A beverage. An emotion. An experience.

For many, simply a part of everyday life.

Tea has always been a big part of my life. There’s something just very therapeutic about the art of brewing a perfect cup of tea. Almost magical. It soothes you even before the first sip. By the last sip, you’re refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to face the world!

Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world. It has a rich history that dates back to a few millennia. Legend has it that it was accidentally brewed by a Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, in the year 2737 BC, who was boiling water under a wild tea tree when a breeze blew some leaves into his water. The resulting aromatic concoction laid the foundation for a beverage that actual wars were waged over!

Let’s grab some finger sandwiches and dive into some of the most exotic teas this world has to offer:

Dragon Well Tea

This famous Chinese handmade, pan-roasted green tea is created from an extremely labor-intensive process which includes hand plucking the first 30,000 tea shoots that are dried and fired in a wok and shaped by specific hand movements then refired. All this makes just one pound of tea!

Insect Poop Tea

If the name grossed you out, the description does nothing to salvage that. This exotic tea comes from insect droppings! Bugs ingest tea, and their droppings are collected, sifted, and dried to create a safe to consume delicacy that can sell anywhere from US$250 to US$1000 per pound!

White Pearls Tea

Grab your pearls and diamonds to enjoy this exotic tea that can take your High Tea up a notch or two. It comes from a special strain of tea that is harvested only a few days a year in China’s Fujian province. This breathtakingly beautiful tea is made from freshly sprouted buds that are rolled into “pearls” and gently unfurl when infused.

Yellow Gold Tea

This tea was considered the favorite of Chinese Emperors. It is one of the most expensive teas in the world as each bud is swathed with real 24k gold. As the buds unfurl while being infused, the tea imbibes a delicate metallic yet floral aftertaste.

Well, those certainly piqued our curiosi-tea.

While the exotic teas on this list may seem like a dream, adopting tea into your everyday life can have multiple health benefits. Green teas are known to have antioxidants and their impact on weight loss while white tea is said to have anti-cancer properties. Tea is indeed a magical brew.

So keep calm and brew a cuppa.
