2020 has been a whirlwind of a year, with bad news seemingly around every corner. We’ve had to completely rethink the way we live our lives. From working remotely to being socially isolated from being stuck indoors to canceled travel plans, we’ve all faced the brunt of the global pandemic in many different ways. But has it really been all that bad?
While this year may have let us down in so many ways, let’s take a walk down memory lane and take a look at the best of 2020.
Socially distant, but closer than ever
Video calls and phone calls became more frequent and lengthier. Suddenly, it didn’t matter if a friend or family member lived down the street, in a different city, or even on another continent. Emerging from the absence of the day-to-day hustle and bustle, we found ourselves with more time to reach out and interact with long-lost friends and family. Technology helped knit together scattered friendships, relationships, and even build new ones!
Creative sparks everywhere
It’s almost as if we let the daily humdrum of routine capture us all these years, and forgot how each of us has a budding artist, musician, or singer within. Being indoors, with so much more time on hand, 2020 saw people explore and push their creative boundaries, making art that delighted not just the self but gave hope and brought joy to others as well. Empty canvases were dusted off, and bold strokes of paint gave them new life. Untouched musical instruments were tuned to bring out new melodies. Creativity got a new lease on life!
Social media, the new hangout spot
Social media really came into its own this year, with countless #challenges that engaged and enthralled us, and provided us with much-needed fun and laughs. Social media creators upped their game, creating an endless supply of content that kept us entertained. A sense of togetherness was bred through shared interests and passionate discussions on online forums. Important social movements were accelerated in the right direction, and social media was at the heart of real change.
Collective “me-time” and binge-watching sessions
Having more time led to us spending some much-needed quality time in solitude, discovering more about ourselves in this one year than we had ever before. We grew from being lonely to being alone, and the journey involved a whole lot of feel-good, self-pampering sessions. We also finally found time to catch up on all the shows and movies we missed out on earlier while balancing careers and social lives. 2020 saw some epic binge sessions of both, old favorites and new discoveries, powered by various streaming apps that helped us be the couch-potato-cum-heroes we needed to be this year.
Here’s to the ups in a year of erratic ups and downs. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20.
We hope looking back puts a smile on your face. Do comment and tell us about the best of your year. Stay safe!
